The story behind it

Lake Winnipegosis stretches about 195 km, yet at its deepest point it is only about 12 m deep. It is one of three big lakes in central Manitoba, together with Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba. All three lie on the floor of Lake Agassiz, a giant lake from the time of the glaciers that disappeared long ago. Many rivers flow into Lake Winnipegosis, among them the Red Deer River and the Mossey River, and the water leaves through the Waterhen River. Small villages such as Winnipegosis, Camperville and Duck Bay lie on its shores. Fishing is important here: Indigenous families, fishing companies and anglers all catch fish, above all northern pike. The largest island in the lake, Birch Island, has been a provincial park since 2010, so its nature is protected.
