The story behind it
Malta is a small, sun-baked island of pale limestone, and Ta' Dmejrek is simply the highest patch of its western tableland, a few steps from a cliff edge that plunges towards the sea. Farmers have worked this ground for centuries, dividing the thin red soil into tiny fields behind dry stone walls that keep the wind from carrying everything away. Wild thyme, caper bushes and low shrubs grow where the rock breaks through, and their smell hangs in the warm air of summer. From the cliff path the small uninhabited islet of Filfla floats on the water below, and kestrels and swifts hunt along the wall of rock. There is no summit and no path to the top, because the top is really the edge of a plateau, with fields on one side and open sea on the other.
Find it on the globe
Ta' Dmejrek is there as a small peak with its own shape — a horn, a ridge, a volcano — standing on the surface. From far away the planet is only a blue ball; detail arrives as you zoom in, and this one appears once you are close enough. Open it on the globe.
It sits at its real coordinates, not near them — the same numbers listed in the facts above. Switch off the layer for this kind of place and it disappears again; the buttons for that are down the right-hand edge.
