Quiz
Which animal is this?
Ten photographs, four answers each. Which animal is this? Every animal here has its own page on the globe, one click from the answer you missed.
Worth a look
How to get good at this
The photograph shows one animal, but the answer is usually decided by a detail you can name. Ears give away more than size: a hare's are longer than a rabbit's, a lynx has black tufts on the tips. Look at the feet next — hooves or paws, webbed or split — and then at where the picture was taken, because snow, sand and rainforest each rule out most of the list. Guessing the family first and the species second beats trying to recognise the whole animal at once.
How the round works
Ten questions, four answers each, and the score in the corner counts up as you go. There is no clock and nothing is taken away for a wrong answer, so thinking for a minute costs you nothing. At the end you get the list of the ones you missed, and every one of them is a link to the page that explains it — which is the part worth doing, because being wrong is the moment you are most curious about the answer.
Nothing is stored anywhere. There is no account to make, no score kept on a server and no streak that breaks if you go away for a week — the round simply starts again from the beginning, with fresh questions, whenever you come back.
Questions children ask
How does the animal quiz work?
Each round has ten questions with four answers to choose from. There is no timer and no penalty for stopping — you can play as often as you like.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no account, no sign-up and nothing to install. It runs in the browser and works on a phone.
How many animals can appear?
300 animals are in this round's pool, and only animals with a photograph can appear. They are picked fresh every time you play.
What age is this quiz for?
It is written for roughly eight to twelve year olds, but there is nothing in it that stops an adult being caught out — the harder rounds catch most grown-ups too.
Is my score saved anywhere?
No. The score exists only while the round is open, and nothing is sent anywhere. Close the page and it is gone.
